Canada Greener Homes Initiative
The Canada Greener Homes Grant offers up to $5000 in rebates and an interest-free loan of up to $40,000 for homeowners to upgrade their home. The Initiative also provides $600 to help with the cost of the evaluations. Eligible retrofits include home, attic and basement insulation, windows, doors, air sealing, heat pumps, thermostats, and HRV units.

Eligible retrofits overview
Home insulation
Update your eligible attic/ceiling, exterior wall, exposed floor, basement or foundation, and crawlspaces

How the Grant Process Works
Step 1: Check Your Eligibility
Check that you meet all the eligibility criteria for the grant, review the requirements, and learn more about the grant process.

Step 3: Apply for the Canada Greener Homes Grant

You will be directed to select a Service Organization – please consult with Illuminate Energy as to your best option.
Step 4: Plan, document and complete your home retrofits
After you receive your EnerGuide evaluation in the Greener Homes program from your energy advisor, you can review the recommendations and decide which retrofits work best for your budget and renovation plans.
You will need to complete at least one retrofit that is both eligible and recommended by your energy advisor. You can find the recommendations for your home in your Renovations Upgrade Report and through the Greener Homes program online.

Step 5: Book your post-retrofit evaluation and apply for reimbursement
After you have completed your home retrofits, you can start the reimbursement process. You need to book your post-retrofit evaluation and submit the required documents online or by mail.
Once your evaluation is complete, your new EnerGuide label and a post-evaluation report will show you how much more energy-efficient your home has become.
Step 6: Receive your reimbursement
You will receive an email asking you to confirm your grant total. Once you confirm your grant total online – you will receive your cheque in the mail.
